Creating photo-realistic patches using sublimation

Sublimation refers to the process of printing onto sublimation paper, then heat transferring onto fabric.

Using the sublimation process will transform your photograph or picture of a loved one into a detailed patch without worrying about stitch counts or enlarging size/text and removing details.

Key points to keep in mind for using sublimated patches:

  • Allows for gradients
  • Can create the distressed look
  • Access to virtually unlimited colors

Which to Choose?

Sublimation patches will have a flat surface that can lend itself to fine details and color arrays. Art with a lot of colors can make a patch bulky or thick when embroidered. However, one reason to choose embroidery over sublimation would be the texture. Embroidered patches have rich texture and dimension because of the threads.

Note, adding a merrowed border to a sublimated patch will help make it look like more of a traditional patch as opposed to a sticker. But sublimated patches smaller than 2.5" cannot have a merrow or satin stitch edge. These patches can only have a laser cut edge.

Choosing this printed option will eliminate the bulky or thick result and allow you an unlimited amount of colors. We will print your picture exactly as it is. Keep in mind that we will need high quality art to print from. Remember to send a high resolution file for the best result.
